Druid Class Overview

Druid Class Features

As a Druid, you gain the following class features when you reach the specified Druid levels. These features are listed in the Druid Features table.

Level 1: Spellcasting

You have learned to cast spells through studying the mystical forces of nature. See “Spells” for the rules on spellcasting. The information below details how you use those rules with Druid spells, which appear on the Druid spell list later in the class’s description.

Cantrips: You know two cantrips of your choice from the Druid spell list. Druidcraft and Produce Flame are recommended. Whenever you gain a Druid level, you may replace one of your cantrips with another Druid cantrip. You learn an additional cantrip at levels 4 and 10.

Spell Slots: The Druid Features table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells. You regain all expended slots when you finish a Long Rest.

Prepared Spells: You prepare a number of Druid spells equal to the number shown in the Druid Features table. Prepared spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. You may change your prepared spells after finishing a Long Rest.

Spellcasting Ability: Wisdom
Spellcasting Focus: A Druidic Focus

Level 1: Druidic

You know Druidic, the secret language of Druids. You always have the Speak with Animals spell prepared. Druidic can be used to leave hidden messages. You and others who know Druidic automatically spot the message; others need a successful DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check to notice it but cannot decipher it without magic.

Level 1: Primal Order

You dedicate yourself to a sacred role of your choice:

  • Magician: You know one extra cantrip from the Druid spell list. You also gain a bonus to Intelligence (Arcana or Nature) checks equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum +1).
  • Warden: You gain proficiency with Martial Weapons and Medium Armor.

Level 2: Wild Shape

As a Bonus Action, you may shape-shift into a Beast form. Duration lasts a number of hours equal to half your Druid level, or until you leave the form early, become Incapacitated, or die.

Number of Uses: You can use Wild Shape twice, regaining one use after a Short Rest and all uses after a Long Rest. Additional uses gained at higher levels are shown in the Druid Features table.

Known Forms: Start with four Beast forms of CR 1/4 or lower without a Fly speed. Recommended: Rat, Riding Horse, Spider, Wolf. Replaceable after a Long Rest. Higher levels increase known forms and max CR; level 8 allows a form with Fly speed.

Beast Shapes

Druid Level Known Forms Max CR Fly Speed
241/4No
461/2No
881Yes

Rules While Shape-Shifted:

  • Temporary Hit Points: You gain a number equal to your Druid level.
  • Game Statistics: Replace your stats with the Beast’s, but retain your creature type, class features, skill and saving throw proficiencies, and use your Proficiency Bonus if higher.
  • No Spellcasting: You cannot cast spells, but Concentration continues for spells already cast.
  • Objects: Equipment may merge with, be worn by, or fall from your new form; size does not adjust automatically.

Level 2: Wild Companion

You may summon a nature spirit as a familiar by expending a spell slot or Wild Shape use. The familiar is Fey and disappears after a Long Rest.

Level 3: Druid Subclass

Choose a Druid subclass. You gain all features from your subclass up to your current Druid level.

Level 4: Ability Score Improvement

Gain an Ability Score Improvement or another qualifying feat. Repeat at levels 8, 12, and 16.

Level 5: Wild Resurgence

If you have no uses of Wild Shape left, you may regain one use each turn by expending a spell slot. You may also convert a Wild Shape use into a 1st-level spell slot once per Long Rest.

Level 7: Elemental Fury

Choose one of the following:

  • Potent Spellcasting: Add your Wisdom modifier to Druid cantrip damage.
  • Primal Strike: Once per turn, your attack with a weapon or Beast form can deal extra 1d8 Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder damage.

Level 15: Improved Elemental Fury

  • Potent Spellcasting: Cantrip range ≥10 ft increases by 300 ft.
  • Primal Strike: Extra damage increases to 2d8.

Level 18: Beast Spells

While in Wild Shape, you can cast spells except those requiring costly Material components.

Level 19: Epic Boon

Gain an Epic Boon feat or another qualifying feat. Boon of Dimensional Travel is recommended.

Level 20: Archdruid

  • Evergreen Wild Shape: Regain one expended Wild Shape use at Initiative if none remain.
  • Nature Magician: Convert Wild Shape uses into spell slots. Each use = 2 spell levels.
  • Longevity: Age one year per ten years elapsed.
