One D&D Warlock Subclass Tier List

Full Subclass Tier List
The subclass rankings are based solely on other available subclasses within the same base class, not necessarily how they would perform in a game or compared to subclasses from other base classes. For a more holistic view on the power level of each subclass, reference the Full Subclass Tier List above.

A Tier
Genie Warlock – Simply put, every ability here is excellent as long as you pick the Dao patron. Furthermore, being able to use Spike Growth with Eldritch Blast juiced up with Repelling Blast and Crusher makes you a one man shredding machine which is pretty awesome. This subclass is just very pushed even without any underlying synergies.
B Tier
Celestial Warlock* – Beyond just your level 6 ability, everything else here is pretty great. You scale well, you have a solid expanded spell list, you just aren’t as egregiously powerful as the Genie Warlock.
Fiend Warlock* – The “blaster” of the Warlocks, you have a super offensively focused expanded spell list on top of a suite of solid abilities making this a great choice for anyone looking to deal a bunch of damage.
Undead Warlock – A great expanded spell list on top of getting your best ability, Form of Dread, immediately makes this a solid subclass. I would argue that this is a step below the other B tier subclasses, but still very good overall.
C Tier
Archfey Warlock* – Misty Step the subclass is a really interesting idea, but having your abilities tied to it means you’re incentivized to do it even when it’s not ideal. This definitely isn’t a bad subclass, just isn’t the most exciting one either as your Expanded spell list and other abilities are just fine overall.
Fathomless Warlock – Your tentacle abilities make use of actions the Warlock typically doesn’t get good use out of, the abilities themselves are just not that exciting. Good that you get to do things you normally couldn’t, but they just aren’t as strong as you’d like.
Hexblade Warlock – The Hexblade was famous in 5e for being the best subclass to take a dip into, but as a straight class, it’s just fine. Your first two abilities are great, but the class doesn’t really get substantially better as you level up as all the power is front loaded.
D Tier
Great Old One Warlock* – GOOlocks weren’t very good in 5e and unfortunately didn’t get any more love in the new edition. Your Expanded spell list nor abilities are particularly good with the only somewhat standout being Eldritch Hex which you both get late and isn’t even that exciting.
Undying Warlock – Oh Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, you strike again! Nothing to be exciting about here in pretty much any capacity save your 6th level ability which is decent as abilities like this tend to come much later on for other subclasses.
